Using and redistributing Nota

Updated October 5, 2026.

Nota is an open-source project. Its MIT license grants rights to use, copy, modify, publish, distribute, sublicense, and sell the covered software, subject to retaining the required copyright and permission notices. The license includes its warranty disclaimer and limitation of liability. This page summarizes practical usage information and does not replace or restrict those license rights.

Third-party packages, fonts, model weights, native runtimes, and documentation may have separate terms. Read Third-party notices before redistribution. An application MIT license does not make every downloadable AI model MIT or waive an upstream license's attribution or commercial-use conditions. Upstream trademarks remain with their owners.

Use the installer and platform instructions supplied with the specific release. Beta software and AI output need independent verification. Keep backups of important workspace data; generated text and transcripts can be incomplete or inaccurate.

Hosted AI providers, Google integrations, MCP servers, and other external services are optional and subject to their own account, billing, and usage terms. You are responsible for the credentials and integrations you configure and for handling documents and recordings you are permitted to use. See Privacy information for the data paths in the current implementation.

Contributions are governed by the contribution guide and contributor agreement. Community participation is subject to the code of conduct.
